| In today’s world, the globalization process is accelerating.China’s scientific and technological development is advancing by leaps and bounds, and exchanges with other countries in the world are increasingly close. As a bridge between China and foreign countries, scientific and technological translation plays a prominent role in exchanges. The translation of the automobile manual is an important part of the scientific and technological translation. It can help domestic and foreign scientific and technological workers to exchange their needs, help users of target language countries to operate correctly, and help manufacturers and enterprises in the source language countries to enhance their international reputation.Given the importance of automobile manual,it requires a high level of quality in the conversion of scientific and technological information between different languages. The manual in the field of science and technology is an important and special literary form. Its vocabulary and syntactic structure have their distinctive features,so it is of certain value for in-depth study and discussion of its translation. The translation material with about 15,000 words is selected from some chapters of xx Brand Dumper Manual, coming from the company where the author worked as an intern. In the process of translation, the author finds that a large number of non-subject sentences in the materials do not have corresponding sentence patterns in English to translate(except imperative sentences),so the issue of non-subject sentences translation becomes the key point in this research. To realize the bilingual conversion of non-subject sentences, and work out an accurate and smooth manual in high-quality,research method of the case analysis that made according to the characteristics of different types of non-subject sentences is adopted, and four effective translation strategies are summarized, which are:transferring into passive sentence pattern, directly translating to imperative sentence pattern, adding a subject, and using the formal subject "it".The translation principles and strategies summarized in this paper have certain practical significance and strong operability, hoping to provide some reference and enlightenment for the same type of translation work in the future. The whole translation practice report is divided into six parts:The first part is the general description of the translation project, which mainly expounds the background and significance of the project, explains the company’s requirements for the translation, and builds the framework structure of the whole paper. This part plays an important role in outlining. The second part is the decomposition of the translation process, describing in detail the three main processes, which are the periods of before, during and after translation. Before translation, the translator needs to choose appropriate translation tools, establish a glossary, read and learn reference parallel texts, and analyze the characteristics of the source texts. In the stage of translation, the translator should formulate a timetable to grasp the time allocation of translation projects, and should also clarify the difficult parts of translation and have a definite object in view. After translation, the translator should do a good job of proofreading and typesetting to ensure the quality of translation. The third part briefly introduces the source, main contents and influence of text type theory, and discusses how to use this theory to guide translation practice. This part confirms that the non-subject sentences in the material are mainly informative text,so the translation process should be content-centered,with clear logic and simple language. The fourth part is a brief introduction to the non-subject sentences. This part elaborates the definition of non-subject sentences, showing that the reason for the large number of non-subject sentences in translation materials is that Chinese and English have different language expressions, and the manual for motor vehicle use has its own language features. The fifth part is at the core of this report, which mainly introduces the translation strategies of non-subject sentences in Chinese language under the guidance of text type theory.Based on the classification of different types of non-subject sentences, the author puts forward four translation strategies: transferring to passive sentence patterns, directly translating into imperative sentence patterns, adding subjects and using formal subject "it".In this discussion, the author uses a large number of case studies to show the translation thinking process and make each translation strategy concrete. The sixth part includes the harvest and inspiration the author gained in the process of completing the translation project,as well as the existing problems and improvement methods. The completion of this project enriches the author’s relevant knowledge reserve and enhances the understanding of translation theory and practical process. The shortcomings of the target text will also lead the author to continuously improve the translation methods and refine the translation level. |
