The acceleration of the automotive industry has driven the vigorous development of various upstream and downstream industries.In the process of Chinese automobile brands going abroad,the overseas after-sales training industry has also emerged.High quality training materials are the key to after-sales service.The translation material is selected from Maintenance Manual of XXX Automobile of overseas after-sales training program that the translator participated in during the internship period from July 2022 to March 2023.The translator chooses Steering System and Air Conditioning System as translation objects.The Steering System is crucial to the safety of driving,while the Air Conditioning System indicates the automobile’s full functionality.Translating the Steering System and Air Conditioning System is beneficial to provide a good guarantee for overseas after-sales training and improve the efficiency of technology exchange.This report reviews the translator’s translation practices,analyzes the issues encountered in practice with Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory.Maintenance Manual of XXX Automobile is technical text with solid professionalism.The lexical level involves a large number of professional terminologies and abbreviations,which are systematic,monosemous,and accurate.The syntactic level has many imperative sentences and complex long sentences,focusing on the simplicity and accuracy of comprehension and the professionalism and rigor of operation.The textual level is logical and clear,with a clear hierarchy.The translator adopts different translation methods at the lexical,syntactic,and textual levels,aiming to achieve functional equivalence of the text.There are five parts to this report.The introduction,which outlines the background and significance of this translation project,is the first part.The translation process,which is primarily broken down into three stages: pre-translation,while-translation,and post-translation,makes up the second part.In the pre-translation stage,the preparation for background knowledge,textual analysis,supplement of the material,establishment of the terminology database,selection of translation tools,and formulation of translation plan are analyzed.In the while-translation stage,the translator introduces an understanding of the translation material,difficulties encountered in the translation process,and supplement of terminology databases.In the post-translation stage,the translator focuses on the proofreading and typesetting of parallel texts.The third part introduces the content and research status of the theory.The fourth part conducts case studies and provides in-depth analysis from lexical,syntactic,and textual levels to solve the common difficulties in translation.The fifth part provides a comprehensive conclusion and evaluation of this translation task.
