Since the reform and opening up of Vietnam in the past ten years,due to the needs of integration and development,second language teaching has received more and more attention in Vietnamese universities.There is a "Chinese fever" in Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa colleges and universities.Five years ago,Chinese teaching in Khanh Hoa Province,Vietnam was mainly concentrated in foreign language centers.Now,in addition to the Chinese teaching in foreign language centers,the Chinese teaching situation in various universities is gradually changing.Among the 14 colleges and universities in Khanh Hoa Province,Vietnam,Khanh Hoa University and Pacific University offer Chinese undergraduate courses.The Department of Language and Culture of the University of the Pacific opened a Chinese undergraduate course in 2017,and Khanh Hoa University’s Chinese undergraduate course was opened in 2022.In addition,although Nha Trang University does not have a Chinese undergraduate course,Chinese has already been taken as a foreign language elective course for undergraduate students.Other colleges and universities have set up Chinese interest classes,attracting more and more Chinese learners.Most Vietnamese Chinese learners pay attention to the improvement of "listening","speaking" and "reading" abilities,but neglect the cultivation of "writing" ability,and some learners are even unwilling to learn Chinese characters.Because beginners in Vietnamese Chinese think that Chinese characters are difficult,difficult to remember,and difficult to write.However,Chinese characters are closely related to Chinese learning.If you don’t learn Chinese characters,you won’t be able to learn the key points of Chinese,and you won’t be able to learn the essence of Chinese.Therefore,for Vietnamese Chinese learners,the teaching of Chinese characters is both a difficult point and a key point.In order to effectively improve the effect of students’ Chinese character learning and the quality of teachers’ Chinese character teaching,this paper establishes the design concept of "student-centered group teaching" based on previous research,cognitive theory and second language acquisition theory.After understanding the basic situation of Chinese character teaching at Pacific University,according to the characteristics of the learners and their Chinese proficiency,focus on the design of the five links of organizing teaching,introducing new lessons,explaining new lessons,in-class activities or review,and after-class tests.The teaching design of the Chinese character class at the primary stage discussed in this paper combines the author’s teaching practice of reading and writing in the Chinese undergraduate class and the Chinese character teaching practice in the foreign language elective class teaching,and applies it to the classroom for Chinese beginners.After a stage of teaching is over,questionnaires and interviews are used to investigate and collect the situation of students learning Chinese characters,evaluate and analyze the course,and put forward some references and effective suggestions for improvement.The research of this thesis is divided into five chapters: the first chapter,introduction;the second chapter,the investigation and teacher interviews on the teaching of Chinese characters in the primary stage of Vietnamese universities;The third chapter,the current situation and existing problems of the teaching design of Chinese character courses in the primary stage of Vietnamese universities——Taking Pacific University as an example;Chapter 4,teaching design suggestions for elementary Chinese character courses in Vietnamese universities;Chapter 5,Conclusion.
