| Cave 169 of the Bingling Temple is one of the earliest clearly dated ink inscriptions in China,in which the image of Sakyamuni Buddha appears in Cave 169,which is the earliest image of Sakyamuni Buddha to appear in a cave in China. The analysis of the documentary data shows that the appearance of images of Sakyamuni Buddha is related to the belief in Dharma.During the Western Qin Dynasty, the Bingling Temple Grottoes had 3 pavilions of Sakyamuni Buddha murals, with distinctive artistic features of Sakyamuni Buddha murals.During the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Bingling Temple Grottoes also had six Sakyamuni Buddha statues and two Sakyamuni Buddha murals, whose statues reflected the characteristics of the "clear image of bones".The wall paintings and statues of the Sakyamuni Buddha at the Bingling Temple are analyzed through the use of iconographic research.First, the images of Sakyamuni Buddha in the West Qin Grottoes of Bingling Temple are combined with the themes of Vimala Manjushri, the Three Buddhas, and the Thousand Buddhas to reflect the content of Mahayana Buddhist thought, reflecting the profound influence of the beliefs of Dharma, the Thousand Buddhas, and Vimala in the West Qin Grottoes of Bingling Temple.Secondly, the Northern Wei caves of Bingling Temple reflect the Buddha in the form of statues and murals,in addition to the Mahayana Buddhist themes of the Western Qin caves, this period is also reflected in the combination of the Buddha and Nirvana images, the combination of the Dharma Flower Sutra and the Nirvana Sutra together to express the belief in Dharma Flower, while reflecting the idea of "longevity of the Buddha and the longevity of the Buddha’s teachings. Finally,a comparative study with the Yungang Grottoes of the Northern Wei Dynasty, combined with the art of the Sakyamuni Buddha in the Five Caves of Danyao, deepens the study of the images of the Sakyamuni Buddha in the Bingling Temple Grottoes and highlights the importance of the images of the Sakyamuni Buddha in the Western Qin Grottoes. The academic research results on the images of Sakyamuni Buddha in Bingling Temple are relatively few and lack systematic research.A comprehensive study of the images of Sakyamuni Buddha can provide reference and information for the study of the images of Sakyamuni Buddha and promote the development of Chinese painting art. |
