From Tradition To Modernity:Research On Revitalization And Development Of Beihai Shell Carving

Since the introduction of the Revitalization Plan of Chinese Traditional Crafts,the inheritance and development of traditional crafts has attracted wide attention from all walks of life.Beihai shell carving is a complex traditional handicraft skill in Beihai area of Guangxi.It is the crystallization of human wisdom and Marine civilization created by shell carving artists with Beibu Gulf shells as the main raw materials,and through the processes of design,selection,polishing and carving,tile stacking and other processes.It has the natural beauty of shells,the beauty of carving skills and the beauty of Chinese painting style.As well as a unique form of artistic expression and strong historical and cultural heritage.Since the 1960 s,Beihai shell carving,as a signature export product to earn foreign exchange,has contributed a great force to local economic construction and cultural dissemination.However,under the impact of the wave of industrialization,Beihai shell carving has tended to decline in the 1990 s.In the early 21 st century,although Beihai shell carving has recovered its vitality under the efforts of many parties,it has not yet achieved the goal of comprehensive revitalization and development.Beihai shell carving is a combination of inheritance and dissemination value,economic development value and ecological environmental protection value,so it is of great significance to study the revitalization of Beihai shell carving.Based on this,this paper first analyzes the environment,technical process,main characteristics and multiple revitalization value of Beihai shell carving.Secondly,taking Beihai Hiba Home Design Co.,Ltd.with fruitful innovation achievements in Beihai shell carving as an example,this paper obtains first-hand information through field investigation,analyzes in detail the path of its innovation and development and the innovative difficulties it faces,and analyzes the causes.Based on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of cultural reproduction,the paper analyzes the development status of Beihai shell carving industry from the aspects of cultural capital,economic capital and social capital,and finds out the reasons and problems that have not been fully revitalized.Finally,this paper gives some countermeasures to the revitalization and development of Beihai shell carving.The prosperity and development of Beihai shell carving has its historical opportunity.In the creation process of Beihai shell carving,the close relationship between people,natural materials and production and creation is always reflected.Its diverse artistic expression techniques,excellent forms of expression,and expressive materials with regional cultural characteristics make Beihai shell carving outstanding in the shell carving industry.The revitalization and development of Beihai shell carving needs the protection and support of the government,schools,people and other parties,and can be achieved through the collective efforts of all sectors of society and the joint action of constantly advancing with The Times.
