A Report On E-C Translation Of Textiles And Clothing(Chapter3-5)

With the continuous progress of the Belt and Road Initiative,there are more and more research works on silk,textiles and clothing on the Silk Road.The dissemination of these research works will help people learn about the development of silk,textiles and clothing on the Silk Road,and also help people understand history and culture of their native land.The translation materials of this report are selected from Chapters 3 to Chapter 5 of Textile and Clothing.The main contents are the development of plant-stem fibres;The spread of cotton and the production of cotton textiles;The exchange of Chinese silk between Asia,Africa and Europe.The translating purpose of this book is to publicize related knowledge of textiles and clothing,thus,the reader factor is the focus point during the translation.Focusing on reader factors,the author tried the best to make readers understand the content and grasp the information of the text,and the reader can achieve the same effect as the original work in the minds of the original readers.In order to help readers understand the text content and meet their reading requests,the author followed the reader-centered principle and applies appropriate translation techniques to make the translation conform to Chinese expression.The author selected typical cases from the text,and analyzed the skills used in the process of translation from three aspects: word level,sentence level and text level,and introduced how to apply the translation theories to practice.When dealing with words in text,it is necessary to decide meaning of words according to the context instead of catching it literally from the dictionary.Addition and omission are often adopted in translating words.When translating terms,it is necessary to consult professional dictionaries to ensure accurate translation of terms.Three translation techniques are mainly used at the sentence level: the splitting and merging of sentences,voice conversion,and the use of punctuation to turn long and difficult sentences into short sentences in line with Chinese expression.At the text level,cohesion and coherence and logical structure are important between sentences in the translation.
