During the nearly three hundred years that the Qing Dynasty ruled China, the development of calligraphy underwent a critical turning point, and the clerical script was widely revived during the Qing Dynasty, creating a group of jinshi scholars who advocated the study of monuments and specializing in the study of jinshi stele plates.Among the representatives of the stele school of calligraphy,Chen Hongshou and Yi Bingshou were widely involved in all five styles of calligraphy, with the clerical script being the most unique and self-contained.Chen Hongshou’s style is a combination of the seal script and the clerical script, with a natural and natural appearance.Their innovation in the form, which is called the Qing Dynasty "space modeling master",unique artistic concept has changed the pursuit of the original taste of the Han monument creation state,so that the clerical script clear beyond the dust, finally become their own style, which is a great reference for later scholars want to make a bold breakthrough in the clerical script. This paper is based on the heirloom works of both of them,in the context of the social and geographical environment,to understand their scholarly path by their stage of travel experiences and changes in their works, and to categorize and compare their approaches to inscriptions, concluding that Chen Hongshou took more wild and strange inscriptions, and Ibingshou took more square and strong inscriptions, and then analyzed their formal language and calligraphic orientation in a specific comparison.By systematically comparing Chen Hongshou’s and Yi Bingshou’s approaches to calligraphy, their choice of method, their formal language, and their calligraphic style,we endeavor to explore their paths of innovation in the face of tradition and try to provide new ideas for our own calligraphic creation.
