Based on the author's translating of popular science texts during her graduate studies, this report aims to put forward some E-C translation strategies for the passive voice from the perspective of pragmatic adaptation theory. The three key concepts of Verschueren's Pragmatic Adaptation theory, namely variability, negotiability and adaptability refresh the understanding of language meaning and its uses. Therefore, the process of translation, from this perspective,is shifting from a line of understanding, converting and expressing in terms of language itself to a complex mode of negotiation and adaptation in certain socio-cultural context and consequently the criteria of translation are changed. After describing the genre of popular science texts, comparing the linguistic and pragmatic features of English and Chinese passive voice,by analysing examples from her translation practices, the author puts forward some translation strategies of passive voice: translating the English passives into Chinese active voice, sentence with no subject, passive voice and determinative sentences,in order to provide some inspiration and reference for other translators.
