| Radar Interferometry Data Interpretation and Error Analysis,a scientific book on surveying and mapping,is written by professor Ramon Hansen and published by Springer in April 2001.This book reviews the basic concepts of radar, imaging radar and radar interferometry model algorithms. It is an entry level book for relevant professionals and also an influential work in the field of remote sensing. The translator chose the Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the book as source text to carry out this translation practice.A large number of terminologies and long sentences with the passive voice are contained, which is difficult to translate into Chinese. This report aims to put forward some E-C translation strategies for the passive voice from the perspective of linguistic adaptation theory.Linguistic adaptation theory emphasizes that,on the premise of being faithful to the semantic and textual features of the source text, the translation should conform to the reader’s cultural background, the language rules, norms and expression habits and also make the syntax and vocabulary more authentic and accurate. In the translation practice, the translator firstly classified a large number of passive sentences in the book, used translation tools to establish a small glossary for terminologies. Then, guided by the adaptation theory, the translation of passive sentences was divided into four categories, which are active sentences, passive sentences, determinative sentences, and non-subject sentences.By discussing and analyzing how to translate English Scientific and Technological(EST)texts, especially the passive voice faithfully and accurately,on the basis of the technology of passive sentences, this E-C translation is dedicated to providing readers with a reference. The significance of this translation practice lies in the application of adaptation theory to the translation of EST texts.Within the framework of the adaption theory, passive sentences were translated into active sentences, passive sentences, determinative sentences, and non-subject sentences. This report is further proof that adaptation theory as a guidance in the translation of passive sentences in EST texts.Through this translation practice, the translator hopes to provide some references for those engaged in scientific and technical text translation, especially for those specialized in surveying and mapping,so as to help surveying and mapping professionals have a deeper understanding of the content in the book. |
