A Report On C-E Translation Of Business Contract

With the increase of international trade,the demand for business contract translation is growing and its importance is becoming increasingly prominent.The business contracts are highly professional and have the features of both legal and business texts.Taking the Purchase and Sales Contract of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region on Advertising Materials in 2023 as an example,the translator,under the guidance of Register Theory,analyses how the translating of business contracts is taking place from the three variations,namely,field,tenor and mode.From the viewpoint of Register Theory,the register of an excellent translation must be highly consistent with the source text.In other words,the consistency should be achieved at three variations of the field,tenor and mode.The translator firstly introduces the application of the Register Theory in the translation of business contracts,and analyses the register characteristics of the source text and the target text from the comparison of the English and Chinese languages.Secondly,the translator analyses in detail the important problems and difficulties encountered in the translation,taking into account the Register Theory and the translation methods adopted.The translator finds that the field,tenor and mode of the Register Theory usually work together in the choice of vocabulary and grammatical structures.For example,in terms of vocabulary selection,literal translation is used for the translation of terms,fixed expressions and modal verbs.In terms of grammatical structures,the methods of reinventing the sentence structure and turning clause into phrase are mostly used.Therefore,when translating,it is essential to make a comprehensive and integrated analysis of the register in the source text,and choose proper vocabulary and sentence in the translation that are consistent with the register of source text in order to obtain high-quality translation results.Through this practice,the translator has gained a deep understanding of both the Register Theory and the translation of business contracts.It is concluded that the theory can well guide the translation of business contracts and broaden new ideas for the theoretical guidance of business contract translation.
