| This report focuses on E-C translation of sections 3-8 of the 2018 Coca-Cola Business and Sustainability Report.By analyzing lexical,syntactic and textual levels,the translator locates the source text as informational text.The characteristics are summarized as follows: in lexical level,the source text has two characteristics of terminology and nominal structure,;in syntactic level,there are many long sentences in the source text;in textual level,with the eyes of the first person,the report features strict logic and clear expression mainly by cohesive devices of reference,substitution and ellipsis.All of the above also serve as main keys and difficulties during this translation.Later,the translator deals with these problems under the guidance of Register Theory.In Register Theory,field,tenor and mode respectively match the ideational,interpersonal and textual functions of language,which are realized by lexicon and grammar.Firstly,the translator solves the lexical problems and syntactic problems by analyzing the filed,to determine the lexical meaning and logical semantic relations.Secondly,the translator grasps the mood and attitudinal meaning of words from the tenor.Thirdly,the translator deals with the syntactic problems and textual problems from the mode by analyzing the textual cohesion of the source text.Finally,self-proofreading,peer proofreading and supervisor proofreading have been carried out to improve the quality of the translation.This report records the translation practice in detail and provides a reference for the application of register theory in the field of translation. |
