| As the largest trading country in the world,China’s engineering industry has been developing with each passing day.Foreign-related engineering projects witness rocketing growth and expansion in both number and scope,so does the demand for engineering interpretating which requires interpreters to deal with a complicated process of listening, memorizing, and speaking in a very short time. And all kinds of professional expressions in the engineering field are even more challenging for interpreters who may only be the experts in language.Based on the practical experience in a copper smelter project during the internship in China Nerin Engineering Co.,Ltd.,the author wrote this practical report to tackle the challenges brought by technical expressions in engineering meetings where the author provided two-way interpreting involving procurement, technical process, engineering design and hazard analysis, etc. How to overcome the obstacles of professional knowledge and realize adaptation of the technical expression in engineering field are the topics to be discussed in this practical report.Under the guidance of Adaptation Theory, the author analyzes the interpreting performance in the meetings from perspectives of contextual correlates of adaptability, dynamics of adaptability and salience of adaptation process and tried to realize better language choices accordingly. In this way,the report summarizes feasible tactics and suggestions that may shed light on future engineering interpreting. |
