A Report On E-C Translation Of AI Text Based On The Functional Equivalence Theory

The development of computer technology and people’s demand for intelligence have driven the continuous progress of artificial intelligence.Artificial intelligence has become an important driving force for economic and social development,bringing many conveniences and innovations to various aspects of human life and work.AI is changing human thought and social reality,enriching human knowledge,deepening human perception of the world,and thus changing the course of human history.In this trend,the translation of AI texts is becoming increasingly important.Nida’s theory of functional equivalence holds that translation does not require rigid correspondence to the surface of the text,but rather requires to achieve functional equivalence between two different languages,so that target language readers can obtain the same response as source language readers.In order to achieve functional equivalence between the source text and the target text,this thesis attempts to apply Eugene Nida’s theory of functional equivalence into the translation of AI texts.This translation practice report takes the Chinese translation of The Age of AI:And Our Human Future as the research object.Firstly,this translation practice report introduces the source of translation materials and analyzes the language characteristics of the translation materials,such as the use of professional terms and abbreviations at the lexical level,passive and complex sentences at the syntactic level,and rigorous logic at the discourse level;Secondly,this translation practice report introduces the translation process,including preparations before translation,translation process,translation plan formulation and implementation,and translation quality assurance;Then,based on the theory of functional equivalence,this thesis focuses on analyzing the specific translation cases at the lexical level,the syntactic level,and the discourse level respectively,and proposes corresponding translation methods.For example,at the lexical level,literal translation is adopted as the translation method;At the syntactic level,the translation methods of sequential translation and split translation are adopted;At the discourse level,translation methods such as sequential translation,split translation,and structural reorganization are adopted;Finally,this translation practice report summarizes the major findings and limitations of the study.This translation practice report applies the theory of functional equivalence to the translation of AI texts,which will play a positive guiding role in improving the quality of AI text translation.It can provide references for the E-C translation of AI texts and stimulates further researches on the translation of scientific and technological texts.
