This translation practice text is selected from Architects of Intelligence: The truth about AI from the people building it by Martin Ford in 2018.The book is divided into 26 chapters and features one-on-one interviews with 23 of the world’s leading researchers and entrepreneurs working in the fields of AI and robotics.The translator selected the third chapter of Architects of Intelligence,Stuart J.Russell.This chapter gives a detailed introduction to the definition of neural network,the application of deep learning,the development prospects and breakthroughs of Artificial Intelligence,etc.The book is an informative text,which has the characteristics of accuracy and logicality.Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory emphasizes the accuracy of translation without paying too much attention to form correspondence,which is in line with the goal of informative text translation.Therefore,guided by Functional Equivalence Theory,firstly,the translator started with the description of the translation project to introduce the background of the translation task,the characteristics and literature review.Secondly,the translator expounded translation process,such as pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation review.Finally,the translator summarized the problems encountered in the process of translation from three levels of lexicon,syntax and discourse,and proposed their solutions.Through the translation of Architects of Intelligence: The truth about AI from the people building it,the translator has improved her own abilities,and summarized the translation techniques in the field of science and technology.It is hoped that this report will be of certain significance for English-Chinese translation of informative text.
