With the rapid development of society,all walks of life are actively seeking new impetus for economic growth,and the role of science and technology in the development of the industry cannot be underestimated.As the rising star of new technologies,artificial intelligence plays a significant role in the development of the economy and society.Therefore,it is essential to explain the technology behind AI to some extent so that people can better understand it.Hundred Thousand Whys about Artificial Intelligence:Big AI and Little Trivia is a popular science book written by the founder of Intelligence Relativity,Zeng Xiangling,and his senior analysts after in-depth research,combined with the industry situation and future development.It has become a must-read for many domestic fans of intelligent science and technology.This report is based on the skopos theory of translation,skopos theory can assist the translator in accurately conveying the meaning and information of the source language while taking into account the cultural differences and linguistic characteristics between the source and target languages.It provides guiding principles and methods for the translator to follow and apply.Skopos theory includes explicitly three important translation rules:the skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule.The theory was proposed by German functionalist translation theorists Katharina Reiss and Hans Vermeer.The most important rule of the skopos theory is the skopos rule,which means that given different purposes of translations,the translator should use different methods to deal with them.That is to say,the purpose of translation determines the method and strategy of translation.This report selects the first and second chapters of the source text as translation materials,which mainly discuss the popular fields of artificial intelligence,such as intelligent robots and medical services,and explain the artificial intelligence technology behind them in a simple way.Under the guidance of skopos theory,this report analyzes and discusses the characteristics of scientific and technological texts and their translation methods.This report is divided into five parts,the core of which is the fourth chapter of case analysis.Combined with the characteristics of scientific and technological texts,the author systematically discusses the problems and solutions in the translation process from the lexical,syntactic,and discourse aspects.At the lexical level,the translator mainly uses the skopos rule and the coherence rule,and adopts the domesticating strategy to realize the function of popular science text.At the syntactic level,the translator combines the skopos rule,coherence rule,and fidelity rule,making the translation more fluent mainly through literal and amplification translation methods.At the discourse level,the skopos rule and coherence rule are the core,and the literal translation or omission method is used to retain the style of the source text as much as possible.Through this translation report,the translator hopes to expand the feasibility of skopos theory in the English translation of scientific and technological texts,and also to draw some simple experience to give those who are interested in the field of scientific and technological texts,especially in artificial intelligence translation.
