| Against the backdrop of intense international competition and deepening of globalization, education field is witnessing new challenges, thus making globalization of education an inevitable trend. The source text of this report is excerpted from the book Educating Students to Improve the World by Fernando M.Reimos, who puts forward global education theory and explains its concept and importance. The translator chooses the text related to global education to conduct this translation practice, with an aim to make more people know it.According to Newmark’s text typology, educational works are classified to informative text, which requires to express the information of original text and makes readers of target text and original text have the same understanding, revealing that these features conform to Nida’s functional equivalence theory. Therefore, the translator translates the book Educating Students to Improve the World(excerpts)into Chinese under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. The major problems in the process of translation are mainly terminology, passive sentences, long and complicated sentences,as well as the settlement of logical and cohesive relationships between sentences.Nida’s functional equivalence theory mainly includes four aspects: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. From these four aspects, the translator uses such translation methods as semantic extension of concepts, division, reference and inversion to solve the problems encountered in translation, hoping it can provide reference for future translation of similar text types. |
