The Construction And Function Of Limited Space In Suspenseful Narrative Films

In recent years,suspense films have gradually become a highly anticipated film genre in China,and their appearance in cinemas is also increasingly common.China is also actively innovating and experimenting with the suspense film genre.This article combines research on the construction of limited space in suspense feature films and practical creation of suspense short films.By reviewing literature and personally participating in creative practice design,the article analyzes the space design,character development,suspense design,and story plot setting of suspense feature films within the limited space framework.The article first summarizes the relevant concepts and definitions related to limited space and suspense feature films by reviewing literature and comparing research cases in China and abroad.Secondly,it analyzes the space model and character relationships within the limited space framework of suspense feature films through the short film "Tossing the Coin" that I created for my graduation project,including detailed analysis of the spatial model and features of limited space and character development within that space.Next,the article analyzes the narrative strategies of suspense films within the limited space framework from the perspectives of narrative viewpoint and method,based on my short film "Tossing the Coin".It explains in detail the in-focus narrative viewpoint,fragmented narrative mode,and window narrative mode that I used in my creation,as well as their expression and presentation in "Tossing the Coin".Then,based on the above analysis of the limited space model and narrative research within the limited space model,the article explores the design of suspense effects in suspense feature films within the limited space model from four aspects: props,black elements,music and sound effects,and editing techniques.It discusses the methods and effects of designing suspense effects and proposes solutions to problems that may arise during the construction of limited space in suspense feature films.Finally,the article summarizes the problems that may be encountered during the space construction of suspense feature films within the limited space framework and proposes solutions based on the entire research and creative process.The article suggests that the conditions of limited space may pose some challenges for the creation of suspense films,but with innovative techniques and artistic skills,creators can make full use of existing scenes,depict character emotions and interactions,use photography and sound effects to create an atmosphere,advance the plot,and flexibly apply editing and transition techniques to successfully create engaging suspense films.The hope is that this research will provide useful ideas for the creation of suspense films.
