Research On The Interpretation Of Three-Syllable Overlapped Words In The Global Chinese Dictionary

This paper aims to research overlapping trisyllabic words in Global Dictionary of Chinese(《全球华语大词典》)edited by Li Yuming(李宇明).With typical overlapping trisyllabic words of the dictionary as the closed filed,this paper analyzes their interpretation patterns and characteristics as well as changes before and after their overlap from the perspective of morpheme and word meaning relationship and preliminarily explores interpretation features of overlapping trisyllabic words so as to provide reliable analysis materials for the research on compilation of dictionaries and lexicographical works of the same kind and overlapping trisyllabic words.The paper includes five chapters:Chapter 1 is the Introduction,which gives a summary of research situations of overlapping trisyllabic words and reviews the paraphrasing of overlapping trisyllabic words in Global Dictionary of Chinese(《全球华语大词典》).Besides,research objects are defined and related research methods and theories are explained.Chapter 2 analyzes changes of overlapping morphemes and classifies them from the aspects of order composition,reverse order composition and their relationship with AABB.Besides,meanings of AAB and ABB trisyllabic words as well as the basic forms AB and BA are compared.Changes of their meanings before and after overlap and their relationship with ABB of other forms and the related variant AABB are analyzed.This chapter also explains the emphasis,degree,connotations of word meanings and some other changes after the overlapping.Chapter 3 analyzes "meaning component-pattern" of AAB and ABB words showing characters.The dictionarys main interpretation mode to words showing characteristics is the“description of(Applicable object)+characteristics” and whether the "Applicable object" and "characteristics" are accurate.Besides,this chapter also points out problems in accuracy and quantity.Chapter 4 analyzes "meaning component-pattern" of AAB and ABB words showing name and description,explores their interpretations,discusses some theoretical problems,such as the definition mode,and analyzes various characteristics of the definition modes used in the dictionary.Chapter 5 is the conclusion,which summarizes that the interpretation of Global Dictionary of Chinese(《全球华语大词典》)is featured by accurate and concise explanations.Besides,this chapter also puts forward some suggestions from the perspectives of adding[reference],indication of part of speech,merging of meanings and selection of words.
