A Practice Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Figures Of Speech In Psychological Texts

Man is the central force of social development,and his physical and mental health is the top priority in society.In the context of unprecedented social pressures,attention to mental health cannot be ignored.This translation practice report selects some chapters of the psychological text Toxic Positivity :Keeping It Real in a World Obsessed with Being Happy as the object of translation practice,aiming to popularize psychological knowledge and provide readers with professional psychotherapy methods in a simple and plain translation.The rhetorical pattern is the main linguistic feature of the original text,making the complex and obscure expertise more vivid and understandable;the sentences are more closely related in the structure and more clearly layered.How to reproduce the content and effect of rhetoric in the translation process and convey it to the target readers is the main content of this translation activity.This report focuses on the translation of semantic rhetoric and structural rhetoric and comes up with solutions based on the theory of ecological translation.For the translation of semantic rhetoric,such as simile,metaphor,anthropomorphism and exaggeration,Simile retention,borrowing translation,free translation and additional translation and other translation techniques can be adopted.For the translation of structural rhetoric,such as parallel structures,repetition structures,contrast structures and rhetoric question structures,linear translation,omission,synthesis method and literal translation are adopted.Through translation practice,this thesis points out that ecological translation science has a positive guide to the problem of rhetorical translation of psychological texts.
