The Translation Of Figures Of Speech In Literature Of Economics:a Report On The Translation Of The Only Game In Town

This translation report is based on several chapters from The Only Game in Town written by Mohamed El-Erian,which mainly describes the economic activities about the central bank and involves many figures of speech,including metaphor and metonymy as typical.In the aspect of metaphor translation,the report mainly analyzes the translation of structural metaphor and orientational metophor while in the aspect of metonymy translation,it mainly analyzes the translation of the situation in which a specific part of something is used to refer to the whole or a concrete part is used to refer to the abstract.The differences between the Chinese culture and foreign culture require intercultural communication thinking,and the translator should analyze the true meaning of the author and think about the acceptance of the Chinese readers in order to make a balance between them,all of which amount to difficulties in this translation practice.By means of translation skills mainly including extended translation and amplification,the translator tries to translate in accurate and colloquial ways to accord with the Chinese expression habits.The translation practice offers a chance for the translator to better understand economic texts as well as to improve translation skills,which lays a firm foundation for the later translation practice.It is hoped that this translation report would provide some references for the economic text translators.
