A Report On The E-C Translation Of Figures Of Speech In How To Do The Work （Excerpts） By Communicative Translation Theory

This report is based on the translation of figures of speech in How To Do the Work:Recognize Your Patterns,Heal from the Past,Create Your Self by DR.Nicole Lepera.The book describes new approaches to healing people who have suffered trauma from holistic psychology by sharing patients’ cases.The book is written to spread psychological knowledge taking readers as the center.From these two points,the book can be seen as a composite text that is a blend of an informational text and a vocative text and is,therefore,more suitable for communicative translation from Newmark’s view.Communicative translation can be explained by Newmark as it emphasizes conveying information according to the linguistic,cultural,and pragmatic approach of the target language,which can reveal the important role of readers in the target language.Rhetoric is the appropriate choice of language and expression in light of the themes and scenarios.To effectively express thoughts and feelings,it can be said choice is rhetoric to some degree,and to enhance the effect of the expression is rhetoric（Fan,1992）.The translator committed to reproducing the rhetorical effects in the original text.Given the wide range of rhetoric,the translator translated the semantic figures of speech and syntactic figures of speech in the original text to make this practice report more meaningful.The translator used seven translation skills such as omission,addition,four-word structure and so on to reproduce the rhetorical effect of the original text and make readers in the target language have the same reading experience as those in the source language.And then she also wants to provide a reference to translate semantic and syntactic figures of speech.
