Architectural education plays a crucial role in enhancing the comprehensive qualities and artistic aesthetic ability of teenagers, enabling them to better adapt to future society and become valuable talents. The material for this translation project is focused on the first three chapters of Architecture for Teens — Beginner’s Book for Aspiring Architects, which mainly introduces the development history of architecture, famous architects, types of architecture, and architectural techniques to teenagers, and its author is Danielle S.Willkens, vice president of the American Institute of Architects. This translation practice report follows the framework of “comprehension, expression, and adaptation(CEA)” to analyze the challenges encountered during the translation process.Comprehension serves as the cornerstone of any translation。 After comprehending the source material, the appropriate expression methods should be selected.During the adaptation phase, the“variational translation theory” should be employed to ensure that the translation accurately conveys the intended meaning. In case analysis,“comprehension” primarily addresses issues related to the comprehension of the professional background, terminology, polysemy, and logical relationships between sentences.“Expression” explores ways to avoid Europeanized Chinese and literal translation, while also optimizing the expression based on accurate translation.Lastly,“adaptation” offers various means, such as “adding”,“editing”,and “integrating”,to enhance the quality and efficiency of the translation while maintaining naturalness and fluency in the English language.According to the CEA framework and variational translation theory, this report has found that when translating a text,it is crucial to have a correct understanding of the original text and to enrich and improve the expression of the translation, making necessary modifications when applicable. This translation practice report provides reference for the translation practice of other architectural texts and hopes to help other translators effectively solve the problems of understanding, expression, and adaptation in translation.
