A Report On C-E Translation Of The Purchasing Control Procedure Document From The Perspective Of Variational Translation Theory

With the development of globalization and increasing cooperation between countries,the demand for the translation of a company’s documents is growing in all kinds of joint ventures.The Purchasing Control Procedure Document used in this translation report,as one of the essential documents for the company,not only effectively controls the purchasing quality in each link,but also relates to the operation of the company,so the quality of the translation directly affects the overall image of the company and its work quality.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the translation of control procedure document.Variational translation theory is a translation theory put forward and continuously developed by Prof.Huang Zhonglian.This theory breaks through the constraints of the traditional complete translation,which emphasizes a translator’s subjective initiative.It mainly includes seven adaptation techniques and eleven methods of variational translation.The Purchasing Control Procedure Document is characterized by formal wording and rigorous logic.The language expression is highly professional with a great number of Chinese long and difficult sentences in the source text.Consequently,it is necessary to appropriately adopt adaptation techniques and variational translation methods in the translation process to accurately convey the information in the source text so that the reader can understand the meaning of the source text correctly.This translation report focuses on the analysis and summary of the translation of Chinese long and difficult sentences in the Purchasing Control Procedure Document under the guidance of variational translation theory.The author translated and analyzed the translation at the lexical level by using two adaptation techniques of adding and deleting,and five methods of variational translation,namely,selected translation,edited translation,narrated translation,annotated translation and altered translation,with different degrees of variational translation for different long and difficult sentences in the source text.And the author hopes to expound the application of variational translation theory through carrying out the case analysis.The purpose of this translation report is to analyze the feasibility of variational translation theory in the translation of the Purchasing Control Procedure Document as well as the application of variational translation method in such documents.In addition,the author hopes to explore and summarize the practical application of varational translation theory,and then provide a reference for future translators,so as to prove its practicability and operability while improving the quality of translation under the guidance of this theory.
