"Chunk" is a prefabricated language unit larger than a word stored in the human brain as a whole,which can be modified slightly or directly extracted as a whole.The cultivation of reading comprehension ability is an important link in reading teaching.Previous studies have found that using "chunks" to participate in reading comprehension can effectively reduce the burden of brain processing,enabling learners to accurately and smoothly understand complex sentences and even texts.Based on practical observations in the teaching of Chinese reading in the primary stage,this article analyzes "Chinese chunks" in combination with corpus from the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus,and finds that the application of "Chinese chunks" can effectively help beginners improve their Chinese reading proficiency,but it also finds that Chinese beginners are prone to form "chunk errors" in reading comprehension.Therefore,the types and causes of "chunk errors" in the reading process,the corrective strategies that should be adopted,and how to effectively use "chunks" to participate in the teaching of Chinese reading in the primary stage as a foreign language are the main contents of this paper.The research conducted the survey of 12 language students and the survey of 30 teachers of Chinese as a foreign language through two questionnaires.The above data were combined with interviews with three senior teachers of Chinese as a foreign language.After analysis and processing by SPSSAU statistical software,it was found that there are six common types of "chunk errors" among Chinese beginners include incomplete components,redundant components,improper collocation,improper word order,ambiguous meanings and mixed sentence patterns.And there are three reasons:negative transfer of chunk knowledge,inconsistent expression patterns with the target language context,and low degree of recurrence of chunk knowledge.Therefore,based on the results and analysis of the researches,combined with teaching practice and previous experience about “chunk errors”,the paper draw up six highly recognized corrective measures.Finally,based on the findings of the survey,this paper proposes some suggestions for the application of "chunks" in the teaching of primary reading in Chinese as a foreign language from three perspectives: teachers of Chinese as a foreign language,beginners of Chinese,and primary Chinese reading classes and textbooks.I hope that this paper can provide some reference value for research related to teaching Chinese reading as a foreign language and the application of "Chinese chunks" in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
