With the maturity of technologies of new energy vehicle industry and increasing powerful policies supporting the industry, new energy vehicle sales are growing continuously which is followed by an increasing demand for translation of vehicle user manuals.Accurate translation of vehicle user manual can not only enable consumers to understand information about technical performance, economy, and suitability of brand automobiles better, but also provide vehicle users with precise and clear guidance and instructions fo r use. Therefore, the translation of vehicle user manual has become one of the most important means for developing the automotive market.Vehicle User Manual is a scientific and technological information text and functional equivalence theory is selected as the guiding theory in the translation practice based on the language features of the text.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,t his report takes the chapter “Vehicle Safety Assistance” in Vehicle User Manual as the source text to explore the C-E translation methods of vehicle user manual from lexical level, syntactic level, and discourse level. At the lexical level, dictionaries and parallel texts are used for the accurate translation of technical terms;conversion of parts of speech is used to translate continuous verbs to make the translation more consistent with the characteristics of target language, which mainly includes three types —verb-noun conversion,verb-adjective conversion and verb-preposition conversion. At the syntactic level, voice transformation from active voice to passive voice is used to improve the objectivity of scientific and technical text;imperative sentences are disti nguished based on its functions so as to highlight the communicative and informational functions of scientific and technical text.At the textual level, omission, substitution, reference, word order adjustment, and connectives addition are used for achievi ng textual cohesion and semantic coherence.Through above translation methods, the translator achieves lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and textual equivalence between the source text and the target text, and thus, strives to reproduce the origin al information with the closest and most natural equivalent.
