A Study Of Musical Instrument Imagery In Song Ci

Ci developed to the maturity of the Song Dynasty,there is no doubt that Song Ci has become a wonderful flower in the history of Chinese literature with the achievement of matching Tang poetry.Ci,as a kind of music literature,prospered with the prosperity of Yan music in the Sui and Tang dynasties.Its production,development,creation,spread and a series of processes are closely related to music.Musical Instruments are one of the expression forms of music.Musical Instruments in Song Dynasty were favored by poets because of their delicate appearance,unique timbre and the special emotional meaning symbolized by them.Quan Song Ci has collected more than 1330 poets and about 20,000 lyrics.According to the statistics,there are more than 20 kinds of musical instrument images involved in the Quan Song Ci,such as flute,sheng,xiao,pipa,se,ruan and zheng,which appear for a total of 4125 times.This paper is composed of four chapters to make an in-depth study of musical instrument imagery in Song Ci.The first chapter discusses the basic situation of musical instrument images in Song Ci.First of all,the musical instrument images involved in Song Ci are divided into three categories: blowing,striking and plucking,and their numbers are counted;Secondly,the allusions of musical instruments in Song Ci are divided into three categories: characters,emotions and historical events,and their use frequency and emotional connotation are sorted out;Finally,it analyzes the reasons for the complexity of musical instrument images in Song Ci: first,the musical literature nature of Song Ci itself,second,the rapid development of Goulan and Wasi stimulated the prosperity of musical art in Song Dynasty,and third,the frequent use of musical instruments by Song Dynasty musicians in singing performances.The second chapter discusses the emotional function of musical instrument image in Song Ci.The first is homesickness.Travelers and soldiers stationed at the border will use the instrument images such as Qiang Di,Hu Jia and horn to express their homesickness for their close friends and hometown relatives during their detention and service;The second is the pain of the country’s demise: the Jing Kang Incident and the collapse of the Southern Song Dynasty broke the drunken dream of the literati,who chose to express the pain of the country’s demise and patriotism with the images of pipa,zheng,sheng and other musical instruments in the face of the relentless war;The third is the music of leisure and self-adaptation: the literati who linger in the feast of songs and the scenery of mountains and rivers will choose the image of instruments such as the xiao and the qin to express the music of leisure and self-adaptation and the feeling of happiness.The third chapter discusses the connection between musical instrument images and historical allusions in Song Ci.First of all,historical allusions related to musical instruments in Song Ci reflect historical figures.First,it reflects the real historical figures,such as Xiang Xiu,Mi Zijian,Bo Ya,etc;Second,it reflects fictional mythical characters,such as Xiao Shi,Nong Yu,Wang Ziqiao,etc.Secondly,the historical allusions related to musical instruments in Song Ci are linked with historical events.One is the happy historical events,such as Sima Xiangru and Zhuo Wenjun’s love with the qin,Cai Yong plays flute and so on;The second is tragic historical events,such as Wang Zhaojun playing the pipa to go out of the frontier,Huan Yi playing the zheng to persuade Emperor Wudi of the Jin Dynasty,etc.The connection between musical instrument images and historical allusions in Song Ci not only enriches the expression of musical instrument images but also deepens the textual connotation of Song Ci.The fourth chapter discusses the influence of musical instrument image on Song Ci.The first is the influence of musical instrument image on the creation of Song Ci.First,how to use musical instrument image to create Song Ci;The second is how the lyricist who is not proficient in music can arrange the image of musical instrument to serve his creative activities;The second is the influence of the image of musical instruments on the style of Song Ci: first,the plucking instruments added charm to the graceful and restrained Ci of the Northern Song Dynasty;second,the blowing instruments attached desolation and sadness to the bold and unrestrained Ci of the Southern Song Dynasty;third,the impact of striking instruments on the graceful and unrestrained Ci of the Northern Song Dynasty and the bold and unrestrained Ci of the Southern Song Dynasty;Finally,the influence of musical instrument image on the spread of Song Ci: first,musical instrument image promotes musical talents such as geisha to participate in the spread of Song Ci through singing;second,musical instrument image enables emperors,literati and ordinary people to help spread Song Ci in daily life.
