A Post-Editing Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of "Documents Of Facilitation Committee"

With the rapid development of the shipping industry and more frequent maritime trade,the facilitation of maritime transportation is particularly important to improve the efficiency and show the advantages of the shipping industry.In this context,the Chinese translation of the documents of the Facilitation Committee is of great significance to the development of China’s shipping industry.This translation practice report is from the documents of the 44 th session of the Facilitation Committee.In the process of translation,the author found that the traditional manual translation speed and efficiency can no longer meet the actual requirements,and the machine translation system can complete the translation of the whole text in a few seconds,which saves time and improve efficiency.However,machine translation cannot guarantee the quality of the translation,and post-translation editing is still essential.The author summarizes the types of machine translation errors at the levels including punctuation,vocabularies,phrases,syntax and discourse.At the punctuation level,machine translation suffers from problems such as missing book title numbers and quotation marks.At the lexical level,the errors produced by machine translation include abbreviations,polysemous words,and mistranslation of terms.At the phrase level,the errors produced by machine translation include mistranslation of verb phrases and prepositional phrases.At the syntactic level,they include morphological errors and inflectional errors.At the level of discourse,machine translation presents the problem of lack of coherence in translation.After analyzing the mistranslations such as punctuation,abbreviations and proper nouns that appear in machine translation,the author of this paper summarizes the problem-solving methods such as querying professional dictionaries,selecting semantics according to the contextual background and batch revision in order to provide reference for the post-editing of the versions in maritime field.
