In different areas of research,criteria and methods of listening competency assessment are different.In this paper psychological monitors have been taken as the research object,aimed to preliminarily explore the theoretical structure of listening competency and develop a questionnaire for the assessment of listening competency for psychological monitors in colleges.To study the effect of online group training on listening competency of psychological monitors in colleges.Therefore,it can provide effective and reliable research tool for the research of listening competency assessment and training.This study was divided into two parts.The first part was to develop psychological monitors’ listening competency questionnaire in colleges.The open questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview was conducted with psychological monitors,and semi-structured interview was conducted with college psychology teachers.Nvivo 11.0software was used to code and analyze the collected materials.It has preliminarily established the theoretical structure of listening competency and developed a questionnaire for the assessment of listening competency of psychological monitors in colleges.1005 psychological monitors were tested with the initial questionnaire.According to the item analysis and exploratory factor analysis results,some items were deleted or amended,and a formal questionnaire for the assessment of listening competency including 25 items and five dimensions was developed.2121 psychological monitors were tested with the formal questionnaire,the result shows that this questionnaire is a reliable and effective measurement tool for the assessment of listening competency.The second part was the preliminary application of listening competency questionnaire for psychological monitors in colleges.Experimental group and three control groups were recruited from a university in Tianjin.The experimental group received a 60-minute online group training once a week for eight weeks,while three control groups had no intervention during this period.The listening competency of the four groups were repeatedly measured before and after the training.The result shows that before online group training,there is no significant difference in the scores of listening competency between experimental group and three control groups.After training,the total and five-dimension scores of listening competency of experimental group have higher scores than three control groups significantly,and the scores of the experimental group after intervention in the total and five-dimension of listening competency were significantly higher than before intervention.Therefore,online group training can effectively improve the listening competency of psychological monitors.
