A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Introduction To Scenic Spots From The Perspective Of Adaption Theory

Since the Belt and Road Initiative was put forward in 2013,China’s economy has developed rapidly and its international status has continued to be improved,and the exchanges and cooperation with the countries involved in this initiation has been blooming in tourist industry.The rise and vigorous development of tourism has not only boosted people’s consumption,but also facilitated mutual understanding among different civilizations and countries in the world.Pinglu County,Shanxi Province,one of the birthplaces of the culture of Shanxi,boasts profound cultural deposits and rich tourism resources,which has attracted a large number of tourists from home and abroad.However,it has not yet any relatively complete English version on its tourist introduction,which has inevitably caused an obstacle to the publicity of its local tourism.Therefore,this translation practice is significant to both tourist publicity and economic development of Pinglu County.This report is based on the author’s translation practice of the introductions to Pinglu County’s scenic spots,which includes six scenic spots such as the introduction of Giant Swan,Fu Yue Temple and the Diyin courtyard,etc.This tourism text includes the introduction of natural landscape and cultural landscape,which is fair professional,folkloric and related to many aspects of other disciplines.In addition,it contains many four-character idioms and symmetrical structures.Therefore,the translation should conform to the cognitive ability and aesthetic habits of the target language readers.Theory of Adaptation holds that the use of language is the process of continuous selection and adaptation of language.In the same way,translation itself can be considered as a process of adaptation,which is a process of translators’ continuous choice of language structure and dynamic adaptation to the language environment.Such adaptation mainly includes the adaptation of language structure and contextual relations.Under the guidance of adaptation theory,this paper is aimed to analyze the translation strategies and methods that can be adopted in this translation practice,so as to improve the practicality and acceptability of tourism material translation,accordingly providing some new ideas to the study of tourism material translation.The report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is an introduction of translation tasks,which contains the background,the contents of text,the text analysis and the task requirements.The second chapter describes the translation process: pre-translation preparation,translation implementation,and proofreading.The third chapter is the case study,a core part of the report,making a specific analysis from the perspectives of contextual adaptation and linguistic structure adaptation.The forth chapter summarizes the translator’s experience,which concludes the aspiration the deficiencies.
