| Guided by pragmatic adaptation theory,this translation report is based on the Chinese-English translation practice of the book Intercultural Competence in Organizations.The translator is entrusted to translate the fourth and fifth chapters of this book which mainly involves the application of intercultural competence in multicultural teams.This translation project aims to study the translation methods of academic texts and also provide some suggestions for people studying intercultural competence in our country.It is hoped this report can provide certain enlightenment and assistance for both translation learners and intercultural researchers.By applying Jef Verschueren’s adaptation theory to guide and analyze the translation of Intercultural Competence in Organizations,this report can trace and theorize some of practical problems encountered in the translation process,and inspire the translator to deal with them flexibly through the dimensions advocated by the theory of adaptation.In this report,the translator analyses the academic text from the contextual correlates of adaptability,structural objects of adaptability,the dynamics of adaptability and adopts different translation strategies and methods such as addition and conversion according to the different translation difficulties.In this translation practice,the translator makes an objective analysis of the translation of academic texts in the light of the theory of adaptation,makes linguistic choices in different translation strategies according to the specific context.Making appropriate language choices and adaptation not only conforms to the language style of the original text,but also achieves accuracy and fluency,and is easy to be understood by readers of the target language. |
