A Report On E-C Translation Of Federated AI For Real-World Business Scenarios(Excerpt) Under The Guidance Of Cohesion Theory

The translation material for this report is Chapter 2 Scenarios for Federated AI selected from the Federated AI for Real-World Business Scenarios,which introduces how AI can break through layers of obstacles and apply to business in the real world under new challenges.The book is a typical scientific and technical text,with concise language,strong cohesion,and clear logic.There are a large number of cohesive devices,emerging terms,and some complex and long sentences in this chapter.Therefore,it is difficult to ensure the accuracy of the translation as well as keep the translation smooth and coherent to a certain extent.The means of cohesion between Chinese and English are different,so the translator must master the means of cohesion in both the target and source texts and their translation methods.In this way,the translator can improve the translation’s coherence and conformity to Chinese expression habits.In order to better direct the practice of scientific and technical translation,this study adopts M.A.K.Halliday and Ruqaiya Hasan’s cohesion theory as its guide,combines the three principles of Skopos(Skopos,Coherence,and Fidelity),analyzes the cohesive devices involved in the translation process through examples,and comes up with three translation methods that are applicable to analyzing and resolving the cohesive devices in scientific and technical translation.Through the analysis,the author summarizes three translation techniques by means of cohesion applicable to scientific and technical texts.These methods —omission,addition,and explication—have not only certain guiding significance for scientific and technical translation but also promote the application of cohesion theory in this context and are of certain value for further study of its application in the field.
