| The translation of Chinese political documents and materials is an important channel for the world to know about China’s policies, development models, economic environment, political ideology, etc.,and the translation of Chinese political terms is a more specific and targeted way.Eco-translatology,a new research paradigm looking at the translation from the perspective of ecology, applies the concepts of “balance” and“harmony” between different factors, which exactly correspond to what President Xi has always called for. This thesis, taking eco-translatology as theoretical guidance and centering on Chinese political terms in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China Ⅲ,will probe into the translation method and technique presented in the translation, and the effect the target language achieves from linguistic-,cultural-and communicative-dimensional transformations and based on the analysis of the translational eco-environment of Chinese political terms,in the hope that the appropriate translation method and technique often used in the three different dimensions can be found out,and some useful references can be offered. The study shows that in the linguistic-dimensional transformation,it is found that the translation techniques of word conversion and combination and the translation method of free translation are more frequently adopted in the target language,or more specifically,in the transformation of the part of speech, sentence structure and stylistic features to follow the target language norm;in the cultural-dimensional transformation, the translation method of literal translation is more often added to retain Chinese cultural images. But for some terms whose literal meaning cannot achieve cultural communication, but can lead to the reader’s confusion and misconception, the use of free translation or the addition of an explanatory note is more common;in the communicative-dimensional transformation,it is the translation method of free translation that is more embodied in the target language for the achievement of the communicative purpose or intention of the source language. This thesis aimed at making a further study of Chinese political terms from the perspective of eco-translatology inevitably has limitations and deficiencies, and thus hopes more relevant studies can be conducted in the future for the improvement of this field of research. |
