A Study On Translation Strategies Of Documentary Literature From The Perspective Of Semantic Translation And Communicative Translation

In recent years,with the acceleration of the “Chinese Culture going Global” and the“Belt and Road” construction,the cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world are deepening,and Documentary Literature has become more flourishing.It has always been the mission of translators to export excellent Chinese documentary works and make them appreciated by foreign readers.A successful documentary literature translation can help foreign readers better understand the history,culture and social information of China,and at the same time obtain the aesthetic feelings brought by literary works.So how to maximize the translation effect of Documentary Literature can highlight the significance of studies on translation strategy.Therefore,the studies on documentary literature translation should be widely concerned by people,and the studies on documentary literature translation strategies should be further strengthened.In 1981,Newmark put forward Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation for the first time.Semantic Translation refers to the reproduction of the contextual meaning of the source text as accurately as possible under the premise of the semantic and syntactic structure of the target language,while Communicative Translation refers to the effect of the translated text on target text readers as much as that of the original text readers.As a type of text with strong documentary,documentary literature translation should not only retain the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the original text,but also consider the expression effect of the target language.This principle has a strong fit with the connotation of Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation.In view of this,this study selects Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation as the theoretical framework,explores documentary literature translation strategies so as to provide profound inspiration for the research in this field.Firstly,this thesis gives a brief introduction about the research background,purpose and significance of the study.Secondly,this thesis overviews some domestic and overseas previous studies of Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation and documentary literature translation.Thirdly,the thesis expounds the theoretical framework,which includes the development background,main arguments and the differences between the two concepts.Next,this thesis analyzes the types and features of Documentary Literature and the linguistic features of the source text China ’ s Olympic Winter Games.Then,the thesis explores documentary literature translation strategies from Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation at lexical,syntactical,textual and stylistic level by case analysis.Finally,the thesis concludes the major findings,limitations and future studies.
