This is a report on Chinese-English translation.The source texts are the chapters(5-6)of Reconstructing the image of Medicine in the Qin and Han Dynasties of China by Liao Yuqun.A great many historical materials and classics are quoted to demonstrate the real images of medicine in the Qin and Han dynasties from various angles and perspectives.The main contents are about the analysis of forces that drive the medical development in the Qin and Han dynasties and the influence of foreign cultures on the development of TCM.This is an informative text that presents a serious and realistic view of medical development to readers.The source language is characterized by accuracy,faithfulness and parataxis with implicit logical relationship between the lines.On the basis of text type and linguistic features,the translation practice is guided by the Newmark’s theories of semantic and communicative translation to explore the translation strategy of the texts of Chinese medical history.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter overviews the translation project from four sections: translation purpose,content,type and linguistic features.The second chapter is the theoretical basis,which introduces the Newmark’s theories of semantic and communicative translation,differences and similarities between them,and guidance in translation project.The third chapter is the description of the translation process,including the pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The fourth chapter is case analysis which can be divided into two sections.The first section is mainly talking about the translation strategies of ancient book titles,antique names and cultureloaded words under the guidance of semantic translation theory.The second section is mainly talking about the translation strategies of complex long sentences,classical Chinese and discourse under the guidance of communicative translation theory.The fifth chapter is the summary of translation experience and limitations of this report.This translation report is expected to bring some enlightenment on further research in the field of translation of Chinese medical history. |
