| Pan Shutang(1808-1896),styled Qi Nan and styled Xi Lu,was born in Yongkang County,Jinhua Prefecture,Zhejiang Province(present Yongkang City,Jinhua City,Zhejiang Province).He was a scholar and writer in late Qing Dynasty.Pan Shutang did not reach an official career in his life,but was indifferent to fame and wealth,noble character,profound learning,can be called a generation of famous scholar.He was famous in eastern Zhejiang in the late Qing Dynasty and his works covered many fields,such as classics,gemology,phonology,literature,etc.However,most of them were destroyed by the war,so only a few works such as Du Lü Zhengmeng survived.Pan Shutang advocated "temperament" and "sincerity" in poems,his poems were honest and gentle,elegant and easy,and influnced by Du Fu.Du Lü Zhengmeng is a short annotated book for children to learn poems.Its main content is to dredging the general idea of poems and helping beginners to understand Du Fu’s poems.The book is annotated by the combination of the title notes,the notes in the body of the poem and the general comments after the poem.When annotating the words and famous objects and allusions in Du Fu’s poems,Pan Shutang mostly followed Yang Lun’s Du Shi Jingquan,electing and quoting materials from Du Shi Jingquan and simplifying them on the basis of Yang Lun’s book.The general comment section of the poem first summarizes the poetic pattern of a poem,and then divides the couplets to analyze the structure of the whole poem.The main feature of this footnote is to annotate Du Fu with poetic method.Pan Shutang inherited the naming mode and thinking mode of the previous generation of poetry,observed and understood Du Fu’s poetry from a unique perspective,summed up 54 poetic methods,representing Pan Shutang’s thoughts about Du Fu’s poetry. |
