In recent years,sports buildings have gradually attracted the attention from all walks of life.In addition,due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020,the large-span sports buildings have been reconstructed into square cabin hospitals,which has become a hot topic at the present stage.Therefore,the author chose the architectural text about sports buildings for the translation practice.The text selected for this translation report is the article Reflection on Current Development of Sports Architecture: From Increment to Inventory,and the main content includes experts’ thoughts and suggestions on the development of sports architecture.During the translation process,the author found that the main feature of the text is the large number of long sentences,so the main difficulty in this English translation is how to properly handle the sentence structures of long sentences in order to achieve a communicative effect.Based on Newmark’s communicative translation theory,this report summarizes the translation methods of long sentence in the article Reflection on Current Development of Sports Architecture: From Increment to Inventory.The author cites some example sentences in the text,and analyzes and explains the example sentences on the basis of communicative translation theory and the translation experience and methods of other scholars.The author finally summarizes five translation methods: diversion and combination,linear translation,inversion,integration and reorganization.The author hopes to introduce to the world the experience of Chinese sports architecture development and architectural construction through this translated text,and provide reference for future related translation practice and research. |
