Translation Of Long English Sentences Into Chinese:A Practical Report On The Project Of IT Equipment Tender

Based on the first chapter of the bid contract called Procurement of IT Equipment and Software for Infrastructure Development of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport as the translation material,the bid contract includes seven parts:bidding process,supply requirement contract,bid preparation,bid submission,opening,and evaluation.There are a large number of long sentences in the source language,with complex structures and concentrated information.Therefore,the performance of the completion of the project depends on the quality of the translation of them,so the author has endeavored to research it.The existing researches have been made in the field of culture and literature from the perspective of emphasizing logical and structural analysis and proposing specific translation methods.However,the author’s research is directed towards analyzing the translation methods of the IT text from the perspective of the classification of long English sentences.There exist complex language features and professional words abound in a source text.A large number of modal verbs with a legal style clearly define the rights and interests of bids,so there are many long sentences with strong logic.They can be grouped into three kinds:long simple sentences,long compound sentences,and long complex sentences.The structure of long simple sentences is simple,but there are many phrases;in long compound sentences,conjunctions contain several implications and there are various clauses in long complex sentences.According to the comparison of English and Chinese sentences,the translation of three types of long English sentences will be analyzed respectively,including their translation difficulties,translation methods,and reflection.In all,in this paper,the author will conclude some common translation methods of them such as sequence,reverse,reconstruction,omission,addition,synthesis,and so on.Finally,this scrupulous study can provide a valuable reference for the translation of long English sentences into Chinese.
