| As we all know, vocabulary is the basis of mastering a language. However, vocabulary has always been one of the biggest headaches for students. Many students do not master the ways of memorizing new words.Consequently, some scholars at home and abroad have been studying efficient vocabulary memorizing methods.Among them, mind mapping is a tool for visualizing complex knowledge, connecting different knowledge with reasonable logic, and presenting it as diagrams.Mind mapping has become a research topic for many educators nowadays. This study is to investigate the impact of mind mapping on students’ English vocabulary learning and to assist them to memorize words effectively. The research problems in the paper are:(1)Can mind mapping stimulate students’ interest in vocabulary?(2)Can the application of mind mapping improve students’ performance in vocabulary? Based on this, two classes were selected as research objects, one was the experimental class and the other was the control class. The author first shows the students how to draw a mind map and the words in different units can be connected through a mind mapping so that students can review effectively, and then asks the students to imitate it.After one semester’s experiment, the vocabulary of students in the experimental class is significantly better than that of the control class.Through questionnaires, interviews, and vocabulary tests before and after the experiment,it was found that not only the students’ vocabulary was enlarged, but also their interest in English vocabulary was increased. The practice proves that mind mapping is feasible in English vocabulary teaching and is worthwhile. |
