Vocabulary is one of the three key elements of language,which is the key and difficult part of learning English well.How to memorize vocabulary effectively is a difficult problem for high school students.Mind mapping is a visual graphic tool which can effectively promote students’ divergent thinking and activate students’ memory potential.In this study,Mind mapping is applied to English vocabulary teaching and learning in an experimental high school under the guidance of the new curriculum,which aims to help students enlarge their vocabulary and to improve their ability to use vocabulary properly.At the same time,it focuses on the changes of students’ interest and learning strategies in vocabulary learning in this teaching mode,in order to explore the effective ways of English vocabulary teaching and learning in senior high schools.Research subjects are students from Class Ten and Class Eleven,Junior Two,Wuhan Jiangxia Experimental High School.Research instruments include tests and questionnaires.Pre-test and pre-questionnaire were conducted in both the experimental class and comparative class from September 5,2016 to September 8,2016.The author introduces the concept of mind mapping,mapping and teaching requirements to the students in the experimental class.From September 9,2016 to October 24,2016,Mind mapping was adopted in vocabulary teaching in the experimental class,while traditional vocabulary teaching was adopted in the comparative class.Post-test was conducted in the two classes and post-questionnaire was conducted in the experimental class from October 25,2016 to October 28,2016.Based on the analysis of the results of the experiment,the following conclusions are drawn:1.The application of Mind Mapping has positive effects on enlarging students’vocabulary and improving students’ ability to use vocabulary properly.2.The application of Mind Mapping has positive effects on promoting students’interest and learning strategies in vocabulary learning.3.The application of Mind Mapping has positive effects on developing students’self-learning ability.
