Character documentaries are based on real-life individuals or groups as the subject of shooting,through the real record of the subject,showing the living conditions and attitudes of life beyond the individual.As a work of art,character documentaries are not only the visual expression of the lives of the characters,but also let the audience feel the emotional resonance and spiritual enlightenment through the images.Although the space for the characters’ lives is limited,the concept of life conveyed by the characters will not be affected in the slightest.Taking the author’s bi-set character documentary "The Artistic Life of a Peasant" as an example,the documentary shows the artistic enthusiasm of Teacher Geng who did not forget his original intention and insisted on showing the most simple rural life of the villagers in Wangxia Village with his own brush within the limited range of activities of Geng Zhanxiong,a peasant painter in Xinji,with the help of images and explanatory words.As a character documentary,it is particularly important to construct the identity of the character and express emotions with the help of sound and painting language.Therefore,this article takes the author’s bishi as an example to analyze how character documentaries construct character identities and express emotions.This paper is divided into five parts,the first part is an introduction,which expounds the determination of the topic,the purpose and significance of the research,the research status of the identity construction and emotional expression of domestic and foreign character documentaries and the research methods of this paper;the second part is the interpretation of related concepts;the third part is the analysis of the identity construction method in the character documentary,from the three aspects of space,discourse and works;the fourth part is the analysis of the way of emotional expression in the character documentary,from the aspects of long lens,sound language,and close-up The fifth part is a conclusion that summarizes the research in this article.This paper elaborates on the way of character identity construction and emotional expression in character documentaries,and deeply studies the application of identity construction and emotional expression in character documentaries.
