Shen Dingyi is an important figure in modern Chinese history. When he set foot in politics in 1904,he was inclined to improve, but he turned to revolution a few years later, and then he took part in a series of revolutionary activities since 1911.The intellectuals in modern China are hard to avoid the double influence of Chinese and Western culture, especially the generation of Shen Dingyi, most of them have participated in or made efforts to participate in the imperial examination,so they retain the old scholars’ ideas and ideas, but also are strongly impacted by Western ideas, resulting in the change of Chinese political situation and personal thinking caused by the dualistic split spiritual world Changes in thinking and behavior have had a profound impact.Maintaining the Republic and advocating autonomy is a long-standing political proposition of Shen Ding.As a persevering intellectual,he refused to yield to the current situation, which led to his two exiles, one to Japan and one to Shanghai. After the failure of the political revolution,he turned to the ideological aspect to prepare for the revival of the revolution. He began to incline to Marxism, and looked at workers, farmers and Chinese society with Marxist perspective.Under the guidance of Marxism,he launched the pre yamen peasant movement, organized the workers’ movement and participated in the early organization of the Communist Party of China. But Shen Dingyi’s tendency towards Marxism is based on his own understanding of a practical foundation, not out of complete belief. At the same time,he is also a worshiper of Sun Yat-sen,which also foreshadows his later fall to the Kuomintang.Shen Dingyi’s thought and behavior changed dramatically in his whole life, from improvement to revolution in the late Qing Dynasty, from political revolution to ideological revolution around the May 4th movement, from communism to three people’s principles in the great revolution. His whole life was a revolution and re revolution.Revolution was a main line of his life, and also provided a more powerful explanation for the dramatic changes of his thought and behavior.
