Abstract/Summary:
Shen Bao is the most powerful, influential newspaper with the longest history in modem China. It has great research value. However, the present research on this newspaper has not been done well enough, because the research achievements that have been made lack careful and profound textual research and thus are one --sided. Focusing on Shen bao's report on revolution, this paper outlines the evolution process of the political inclination of Shao bao, giving a brief account of the changes of public opinion during the period of Xin Hal Revolution, and explore the truth of history. After its reform in 1905, Shen Ban still had a reproachable attitude toward the revolution, and also it once has been calling for revolution, showing its sympathy over revoLution. However, generally speaking, in the prepareting period of the revolution, its overall inclination is stepping toward revolution, hich helped laying a solid foundation for its corporation with the revolutionist in days to come. When the Wu Chang uprising broke out in 1911, after short hesitation, Shen Bao finally directed itself to the support of revolution. But cnsis of breaking up also existed behind its alliance with revolution. Before and after the ong case?Shen Bao was in a neutral position, which lasted until the early days of he Twice Revolution? It is when the revolutionary army nitiated the war n Shang hal that Shen Bao completely betrayed revolution. Conditioned by the politics, economy, the mentality of the masses and other various social elements, the changes of Shen Bao's political inclination has a profound influence on the revolutionary movement. Since Shen Bao reflects the interests of bourgeoisie, from its inclination changes, it can be found out that the relationship between bourgeoisie and revolutionists is very complex. The estrangement, corporation is not so clear cut and distinct. After the analysis of Shen Bao's political inclination and its influence, the author thinks that the position and role of Shen Bao should be redefined. In author's opinion, Shen Baa represents the direction of the development of Chinese newspaper field in some sense.
