Research On Women’s Traveling Activities In Lin’an Of Southern Song Dynasty

Traveling is an important way of life in the traditional society.After the Southern Song Dynasty took Lin’an as its capital,both the commodity economy and the ideological and cultural were more and more prosperity and traveling is more popular,women were active travelers too.This paper takes the travel activities of women in Lin’an of the Southern Song Synasty as the research object,exploring the outside life of women in Lin’an,reproducing the life of women in Lin’an as truly as possible.The first part of this paper introduces the historical background of women’s life in Lin’an.The second part introduces the situation of women’s travel from three aspects:Holiday travel,Daily travel and Religious travel.The third part reflects the social life and custom culture at that time through the introduction of the traveling clothes,transportation and consumption of women in Lin’an.The last part mainly analyzes the reasons,restrictions and influences of women’s travel in Lin’an from the aspects of moral restrict,social space,and the extension of family roles.Women’s travel has the characteristics of subordination,and the traditional social order could be flexible.Although neo-confucianism had a restraining effect on women,it was not completely under the control of neo-confucianism at that time.The Southern Song Dynasty was in the period of social reform in Tang and Song dynasties,women in that period lived in a relatively relaxed social environment.Especially compared with the later Ming and qing dynasties,the status of women in the Southern Song Dynasty was relatively high in family and society.The study of women’s traveling activities in Lin’an of Southern Song Dynasty can reappearance the life of women in Southern Song Dynasty.And it will help us understand the customs and culture of Lin’an of Southern Song Dynasty.It has great significance for thr research on women’s travel and modern travel of Hangzhou.
