Abstract/Summary:
Regarding the extraterritorial documents of The Examination Anthology Preserved in the Japanese Library,on Cabinet Library of Japan version as research object,this thesis takes the early period examination ancient-style odes in Yuan dynasty as an independent literary form and discusses the related issues.Though related issues of imperial examination and ancient-style ode in Yuan dynasty are not popular in academia,the Cabinet Library of Japan version of The Examination Anthology Preserved in the Japanese Library provides very valuable first-hand documental materials for the researches of related issues of early period examination ancient-style odes in Yuan dynasty.This thesis discourses about early period examination ancient-style odes in Yuan dynasty in fives factors including the born background,definition of concept,stereotyping of literary form and new changes of characteristics.The concept of early period examination ancient-style ode in Yuan dynasty is defined on the basis of ancient-style odes in the first eight imperial examinations in Yuan dynasty recorded in The Examination Anthology Preserved in the Japanese Library.Early period refers to the first eight imperial examinations in the seventeen times in total,not the early historical period of Yuan dynasty.Imperial examination ancient-style ode is a unique article form for exams which produced by the start of imperial examination during Yanyou period.The born of the form is in the background that the royal court of Yuan dynasty changed regulated ode text in imperial examination,which dated from Tang dynasty,into ancient-style ode.And the literary form is greatly affected by political factors because of imperial examination.Imperial examination ancient-style ode is closely linked to politics on the shaping and change of characteristics of literary form,which makes political feature the obvious distinction between imperial examination ancient-style ode in Yuan dynasty and non-imperial examination ancient-style ode.The first imperial examination during Yanyou period launched the first ancient-style ode exam on history,which drove both the examiners and candidates to try to deal with the unprecedented examination.With the attempt and experience summarizing of them,early period examination ancient-style ode in Yuan dynasty gradually shaped up.It presents a characteristic of formulaic ancient revival,namely"pseudo-ancient",on the literary form of ode,and drastically inclines to eulogize the monarch or extol the court on function.After the political and social chaos in middle period of Yuan dynasty,plus the coming out and extended influence of theory treatises on ode,such as Form Distinguishing on Ancient-style Ode,Creel of Article,etc,early period examination ancient-style ode in Yuan dynasty altered on literary form features.The massive use of"Double Ending" pattern and verse tailed with "xi" made it trend to templatize and rhythm on literary form of ode.While on the literary function,beginning to integrate with function of glorification,the satire and remonstrance function became more prominent in early period examination ancient-style odes in Yuan dynasty.Early period examination ancient-style ode in Yuan dynasty exerted certain influence on Eight-Parts essay in three aspects of contents of exam,literary form and rhetorical device.Examination ancient-style ode in Yuan dynasty drifted to Eight-Parts essay on literary form during its process of development,while imperial examination demanding simplification to progress,ancient-style ode encouraged the figures of parallelism and antithesis when paraphrasing The Four Books,which accelerating the settle of Eight-Parts essay.
