Sui and tang dynasties is a period that the imperial examination system established in our country, and it’s also an age of Buddhism thriving. The phenomenon of Intellectuals studying in the temple appeared with the establishment of the imperial examination system, and it is also the product of the Buddhism localization and secularization. The prosperity of temple culture has close relationship with the imperial examinations. After the fall of the governmental-school, the phenomenon of intellectuals learning in the temple flourished. Many temples, due to their good learning environment, abundant books, learned monks, attracts many intellectuals to come to the temple, which was gradually becoming a kind of social atmosphere. Temple education and imperial examination, the temple monks and scholars, temple culture and scientific culture influence mutually and actively. The temple, as a great "window" of Tang’s culture, supplied much nourishment to these people. On the other side, Chinese intellectuals and their likes, using their own cultural literacy and social status, promote the spread of Buddhism directly or indirectly. This is a great landscape in the history of Chinese ancient education, and it made a profound impact on the overall development of the tang dynasty culture. I tried to study this phenomenon, to reflect the interaction between the Buddhism and Confucianism.
