Abstract/Summary:
Objective:To Systematically assessing the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave therapy(ESWT)in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis. Methods:The retrieval of Randomized Controlled Trials(RTCs)concerning extracorporeal shock wave treatment of lateral epicondylitis was conducted in Pubmed, web of science,The Ccchrance Library,CBM,CNKI,VIP,and Wan Fang databases, spanning from the inception of the database to December 2022.Outcome indicators included visual analog pain scale(VAS),grip strength,patient-rated tennis elbow joint evaluation(PRTEE)and disabilities of the arm shoulder and hand synthase(DASH).Two reviewers independently conducted literature screening and extract-ion of the included literatures, and their quality was evaluated in accordance with the Cochrane Collaboration network’s criteria.Data analysis was conducted using Rev Man5.4 software. If the measurement data with the same units and measurement methods were represented by mean difference(MD),if the heterogeneity was high(I~2≥50%,P<0.1),random effects model was used for analysis. If there was no heterogeneity or low heterogeneity(I~2<50%,P>0.1),fixed-effect model was used for analysis.Results:18 literatures were included, including 4 Chinese literatures and 14 English literatures, with a total of 1039 patients. The results of meta-analysis showed that VAS score of ESWT group was significantly better than that of control group, and the difference was statistically significant[MD=-1.05,95%CI(-1.72,-0.39),P=0.002,].In terms of grip strength improvement,ESWT group was significantly higher than control group, and the difference was statistically significant[MD=3.14,95%CI(1.19,5.09),P=0.002].In the patient-rated tennis elbow joint evaluation(PRTEE),the ESWT group was also better than the control group, the difference was statistically significant[MD=-8.65,95%CI(-14.97,-2.32),P=0.007].The DASH score of ESWT group was significantly lower than that of control group, and the difference was statistically significant【MD=-9.99,95%CI(-13.44,-6.53),P<0.00001】.Conclusion:ESWT is effective in relieving the pain of lateral epicondylitis and restoring elbow function. Conclusion:ESWT is effective in relieving the pain of lateral epicondylitis and restoring elbow function.
