Objective:Lateral epicondylitis was a common disease in orthopaedics and rehabilitation departments. This disease was easy to diagnosed, but there were various therapies to cure lateral epicondylitis with different curative effects. And after treatments,it is easy to relapse again and again. This study compared the therapeutic effects of mobilization with movement(MWM)therapy, extracorporeal shock wave therapy, mobilization with movement(MWM)combined with extracorporeal shock wave therapy in patients with lateral epicondylitis to provide new method and idea to treat lateral epicondylitis. It is designed to improve the therapeutic effect of lateral epicondylitis, andsolve up lateral epicondylitis in patients with pain and dysfunction. The purpose isto improve the clinical cure rate of lateral epicondylitis, and reduce the recurrence rate afterlateral epicondylitis cure, and improve patient satisfaction of treatment.Methods:100 patients with lateral epicondylitis were randomly divided into three groups:group A,B and C,Group A was a mobilization with movement(MWM)treatment group,B group was extracorporeal shock wave treatment group.C group was mobilization with movement(MWM)combined with mobilization with movement(MWM)combined with extracorporeal shock wave treatment group.Visual analogue scale(VAS),Verhaar tennis elbow effect evaluation, the trouble sides' pain-free grip strength and the healthy sides' maximum grip strength were used to evaluation and compare the effects of each treatment.Outcomes were recorded before treatments and 2 weeks after treatments. The thickness of the extensor total tendon was measured by ultrasonic.6 patients dropped out,and 94 patients completed the follow-up,where 28 patients were in group A,36 patients were in group B and 30 patients were in group C.Results:1.The VAS scores of 3 groups at 2 weeks after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05,P<0.05,P<0.05).After 2 weeks' treatment, the difference of the VAS scores among the three groups was significant(P<0.05).The VAS scores of group B and group C was both significantly lower than group A which were statistically significant(P<0.05,P<0.05).The difference of the VAS scores between group C and group B was not significant(P>0.05).2.There was significant difference in the grip strength of 3 groups between before the treatments and after treatments in 2 weeks(P<0.05,P<0.05,P<0.05).After treatments in 2 weeks the difference of the grip strength among the three groups was significant(P<0.05).The grip strength of group C was significantly increased than A,B group(P<0.05,P<0.05).The difference of grip strength of group A and group B was not significant(P>0.05).3.The difference of the excellent rates among the three groups was significant after treatments in 2 weeks(P<0.05).There was significant difference that group C(100%)was always effective and significantly higher than group A(71%)and group B(72%)(P<0.05,P<0.05).The excellence rate difference of group A and group B was not significant(P>0.05).4.Before treatment, ultrasound showed the total tendon thickness of the extensor muscle of the affected limb of group A,B and C,with no statistical significance(P>0.05).The total extensor tendon thickness of the affected limb of group A,B and C became thinner 2 weeks after treatment than before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05,P<0.05,P<0.05).There was no significant difference(P>0.05)in the total tendon thickness of the extensor muscle between the three groups(A,B and C)2weeks after treatment, and the difference was not statistically significant.Conclusion:1.The mobilization with movement(MWM)and extracorporeal shock wave therapy were both have good short term curative effects.2.In relieving the pain of the lateral epicondylitis, extracorporeal shock wave therapy was better than the mobilization with movement(MWM)and the combination of the two therapies was better than the single therapy.3.In improving the grip strength, the mobilization with movement(MWM)and extracorporeal shock wave therapy were both have significant curative effects and the combination of the two therapies was better than the single therapy.4.In terms of the overall curative effects, the combination of the mobilization with movement(MWM)and extracorporeal shock wave therapy were better than the single therapy.5.The thickness of the lateral epicondylitis extensor tendon thins after the mobilization with movement(MWM),extracorporeal shock wave therapy and the combination of the two methods. The thickness of the lateral epicondylitis extensor tendon is closer to the normal side.6.The mobilization with movement(MWM)combined with extracorporeal shock wave therapy was recommended to treat the lateral epicondylitis.Long term curative effects of the mobilization with movement(MWM)therapy, the extracorporeal shockwave therapy and the combination of the two therapies have not had statistics to study further.
