Efficacy Of Low-intensity Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy For Erectile Dysfunction:A Meta-analysis

Objective:The present study collected randomized controlled trials(RCT)of low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy(LI-ESWT)for erectile dysfunction(ED),and used the meta-analysis of existing evidence to evaluate the efficacy of LI-ESWT for ED.Methods:We searched the Cochrane Library,PubMed,EMbase,CNKI,CBM,Wanfang,VIP,and manually searched journal of clinical urology and journal of Chinese urology as well.All RCTs of using LI-ESWT for ED were included.We evaluated the quality and the risk of the bias of the included RCTs according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews.The software RevMan 5.3 and Stata 12.0 were used for meta-analysis.Result:There were 1056 studies after the first search.Twelve RCTs involving 824 patients were identified.The results of meta-analyses showed that:?The International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF)[MD=2.58,95%CI=(1.12,4.05),P=0.0005]and the Erection Hardness Score(EHS)[RD=0.37,95%CI=(0.10,0.65),P=0.008]of patients had significant improvements after the treatment of LI-ESWT.?Mild disease[MD=2.86,95%CI(1.54,4.19),P<0.0001],without other comorbidities[MD=2.74,95%CI(1.17,4.32),P=0.0006],higher pulse number[MD=2.29,95%CI(0.37,4.22),P=0.02],[MD=4.50,95%CI(1.54,7.45),P=0.003]and shorter time of treatment[MD=3.66,95%CI(1.37,5.94),P=0.002],[MD=1.81,95%CI(0.31,3.31),P=0.02]and the device type being omnispec ed1000[MD=3.51,95%CI(1.10,5.92),P=0.004]were positive for treatment,and they were more helpful to improve the IIEF.Conclusion:Men with ED had significant improvements in IIEF and EHS after the treatment of LI-ESWT.
