ObjectiveThis study applied the modified Buyang Huanwu decoction to treat elderly postoperative patients with chronic subdural hematoma(CSDH)of qi deficiency and blood stasis type, and aimed to explore the therapeutic effect of modified Buyang Huanwu decoction on postoperative CSDH patients.MethodsThis study enrolled a total of 56 CSDH patients who met the inclusion criteria from the First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. The patients were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group. Both groups underwent burr hole drainage under local and intravenous combined anesthesia, and the control group received basic treatment after surgery. The treatment group received basic treatment plus modified Buyang Huanwu decoction. To evaluate the therapeutic effect of modified Buyang Huanwu decoction in elderly patients with Qi deficiency and blood stasis after CSDH surgery, the hematoma volume,Modified Barthel Index(MBI)score, and Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)syndrome score were observed and compared before and after treatment.Data processing and statistical analysis were carried out using the SPSS 23.0 software.Results1.Hematoma volume comparison:The residual hematoma volume in the test group was lower than that in the control group at 2 weeks and 1 month after treatment, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).2.MBI score comparison:After treatment, the MBI score in the test group was higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3.TCM syndrome score comparison:After treatment, the TCM syndrome score in the test group was lower than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).4.Comparison of therapeutic effect:The total effective rate in the test group was 92.31%and 84.62%in the control group, and the test group’s therapeutic effect was significantly better than the control group’s(P<0.05).5.Comparison of improvement in TCM symptoms:The effective rate of improvement in TCM symptoms in the treatment group was 88.46%,while that in the control group was 76.92%.There was a statistically significant difference in the improvement of TCM symptoms between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion1.Modified Buyang Huanwu decoction is effective in treating elderly patients with postoperative chronic subdural hematoma of qi deficiency and blood stasis type.It can reduce residual hematoma volume, alleviate clinical symptoms, and improve patients’ self-care ability.2.The combination of Buyang Huanwu decoction with western medicine treatment is more effective than the use of western medicine treatment alone for elderly patients with postoperative chronic subdural hematoma of qi deficiency and blood stasis type, and has good safety.
