Analysis Of Intelligence Structure Of School-age Children With Growth Hormone Deficiency

Objective To test the intelligence of school-age children with growth hormone deficiency according to the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children and analyze the structure and characteristics of intelligence,to provide reference for early intervention of intelligence development in children with growth hormone deficiency.Methods From January 2021 to July 2022,67 school-age children who were admitted to the Department of Children Endocrinology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University for short stature and improved the growth hormone stimulation test were selected.Children should meet the diagnostic criteria for growth hormone deficiency.Then the structure and distribution of cognitive function of all observed children were assessed by Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children to identify the existing vulnerabilities and make further comparisons.To analyze and discuss the intelligence characteristics of school-age children with growth hormone deficiency.Results The Full-Scale IQ of the children was moderate,Among them,the differences between Verbal comprehension index and Perceptual reasoning index,Working memory index,and Processing speed index was statistically significant(P<0.01),as well as the differences between the Perceptual Reasoning Index and Working Memory Index(P<0.01),while the differences between general ability index and cognitive efficiency index were not statistically significant.Second,there was no statistical difference in Full Scale IQ between different levels of growth hormone deficiency.Conclusion Compared with healthy children,the Full Scale IQ of children with GHD is also at the normal level,and there is no significant imbalance in the intellectual structure.Among them,the Perceptual reasoning index is the relative strength within the cognitive ability,while the Verbal comprehension index is the relative weakness.In the treatment process,in addition to hormone replacement therapy,we can help improve cognitive ability,learn skills and develop individual potential by strengthening and guiding the children’s perceptual reasoning ability.
